Government Registration

Udyam / MSME Registration

Udyam is the government registration for micro, small and medium enterprises, issued against the proprietor or the entity PAN and Aadhaar. It is what a bank asks for when applying priority sector lending terms, what a buyer needs before the delayed payment protection applies, and what most government tenders require for the MSME set-aside.

What you get

  • Registration against Aadhaar and PAN, with turnover and investment pulled from linked systems
  • Classification as micro, small or medium determined from the declared figures
  • Udyam Registration Number and certificate issued electronically, with no physical document to collect
  • Enables priority sector lending treatment and collateral-free credit schemes at banks
  • Basis for the statutory protection against delayed payment by buyers
  • Update filing when turnover, investment or business details change

How it works

  1. 1Collect Aadhaar and PANAadhaar of the proprietor for a proprietorship, or of the managing partner or authorised signatory for a firm or company, along with the entity PAN. The Aadhaar mobile must be reachable for the OTP.
  2. 2File the declarationBusiness activity, address, bank details and employment are declared. Investment and turnover are drawn from the linked PAN and GST records rather than typed in, so those returns need to be filed and consistent.
  3. 3Receive the certificateThe Udyam Registration Number is issued and the certificate is available to download. Keep it with the bank file, since it is the document a lender asks for when the MSME terms are applied.

FAQ

About udyam / msme registration

Is Udyam registration compulsory?

No, it is voluntary. It is worth having anyway, because the benefits attached to it are not available without it: MSME lending terms, the delayed payment remedy against buyers, and eligibility for tenders reserved for MSMEs all key off the registration number.

Does the registration need renewal?

The registration itself does not expire, but the classification is linked to turnover and investment and is refreshed from filed returns. An enterprise that grows past a threshold moves category, which changes which benefits apply.
