FAQ
About demat account opening
Does the customer need a PAN to open a demat account?
Yes. PAN is mandatory for a demat account and it must be linked to the bank account being mapped. A PAN that has become inoperative for want of Aadhaar linkage will hold the application up, so it is checked before the file is submitted rather than after it is rejected.
What are the ongoing costs of holding the account?
Demat accounts typically carry an annual maintenance charge, and transactions carry brokerage and statutory charges levied by the exchange and the depository. These are set by the depository participant and the broker, not by us, so the applicable schedule is shown to the customer before they sign rather than summarised here.
